LINA Architecture Platform 2026

The 2025-2026 activity program of the Fundació Mies van der Rohe focuses on the organisation of the UNESCO/UIA World Capital of Architecture and the EUmies Awards Days on 11 and 12 May 2026.

Barcelona is a city of architecture thanks to the beauty and distinctiveness of many of its buildings, and to the way we work together to care for an architectural heritage that spans centuries.

UNESCO-UIA designated it World Capital of Architecture because the city hosts the 2026 World Congress of the International Union of Architects (UIA). Disciplines and societies evolve — and so do Barcelona and the architecture. After housing, social, health and climate crises, the paradigm of our architecture has been profoundly renewed: it aims to be part of the solution, not part of the problem. The city can be re-read, move forward and serve as an example.

The World Capital of Architecture aims to bring architecture, urban planning and landscape architecture closer to everyone, highlighting their capacity to transform how we live together. At the same time, it seeks to showcase historic and contemporary architectural heritage and to project Catalan architecture around the world, through a diverse, inclusive and accessible programme, in collaboration with the vibrant network that sustains architectural culture here at home.

Conceived as a collective and open event — with the active involvement of the community, institutions, schools and professionals — the project invites everyone to take part in this significant celebration of architecture.Barcelona 2026 World Capital of Architecture is a project led by Barcelona City Council, in collaboration with the Mies van der Rohe Foundation, with the active participation of institutions, organisations, professionals and citizens from across the territory.

In this context, three LINA fellows have been invited to prepare three projects that will be presented during the EUmies Awards Days and they will present them to all the geusts attending the EUmies Awards Days:

It was created by Jasper Meurer, a political scientist focused on migration, and Rocio Calzado, an architect specializing in housing and ecological transition.

CAMARAC is a non-profit international collective of young artists and architects. The collective identifies and works on social injustices within the framework of big urban systems.
They consider art to be an essential tool for protest and work to make cities evolve for the benefit of the community, and not at the community’s expense. Their work is based on the pursuit of sustainable progress, based on citizen participation, and attentive and respectful of people’s needs.
Mark is a Ukrainian refugee, architect, urbanist and art activist and Clàudia a filmmaker and multidisciplinary artist.
