What is this? A spa, a gym, a zoo for tiny animals? Exhibiting the archive of the Fundació Mies van der Rohe

The archive unfolds in the form of a cloister, occupying the perimeter of the platform on which you stand. The works on display correspond to two essential components that have shaped it over the years: the models and original drawings of the architectures from the EUmies Awards since 1988, and the traces of the ephemeral interventions at the Pavilion. At the centre of the cloister, the selected works of the 2026 Awards are presented, the most recent addition to the archive.

The extensive set of perimeter pieces is structured into six areas, evoked and introduced by the interventions at the Pavilion: Phantom Presences, Expressing the World, The Domestic, Matter Imaginaries, Inviting Life and Alongside. In this way, through the interventions, the pieces of the Prize projects are grouped around these themes.

This exhibition aims to suggest narratives and open up new interpretations. It is conceived as an invitation to contemplate the archive’s contents, analogue objects of built architecture and traces of ephemeral interventions at the Pavilion, understood as catalysts for discovering the projects and the stories that shape them. Here, the archive is not only a repository of memory, but a critical tool for learning about and reflecting on how architecture is made today.
