Barcelona World Capital of Architecture
This year, the EUmies Awards Days, including the Awards Ceremony, will take place on 11 and 12 May 2026 at the Mies van der Rohe Pavilion and Palau Victòria Eugènia in Barcelona, as part of Barcelona World Capital of Architecture 2026. The two-day program will feature lectures by the authors of the winning and finalist works, discussions with architects, clients, policymakers, and jury members, as well as the exhibition of all 410 works participating in the EUmies Awards 2026 which will stay open until 5 July, during the World Congress of Architecture.
Barcelona is a city of architecture, celebrated for the beauty and uniqueness of many of its buildings and for the way we collectively care for an architectural heritage that spans centuries.
UNESCO-UIA has named it World Capital of Architecture because the city will host the 2026 World Congress of the International Union of Architects (UIA). Disciplines and societies evolve—and so does Barcelona and its architecture. After real estate, social, health, and climate crises, the paradigm of our architecture has been deeply renewed: it aims to be part of the solution, not the problem. The city can reinterpret itself, move forward, and serve as an example.
The World Capital of Architecture seeks to bring architecture, urban planning, and landscape design closer to everyone, highlighting their power to transform the way we live and interact. At the same time, it aims to showcase both historic and contemporary architectural heritage and project Catalan architecture around the world, through a diverse, inclusive, and accessible program, in collaboration with the vibrant network that sustains architectural culture in our city.
Conceived as a collaborative and open event, with the support of the community, institutions, schools, and professionals, the project invites everyone to take part.
