Berlaymont exhibition in Brussels displays EU policy successes
“The Berlaymont Piazza – A Walk through EU Policies” is the name of the new permanent exhibition in the iconic Berlaymont building in Brussels, designed by Lucien de Vestel in 1969 and which houses the headquarters of the European Commission.
The exhibition was inaugurated on Wednesday 6 November by Johannes Hahn, European Commissioner for Budget and Administration. The Berlaymont is a symbolic building and is a key meeting point for Commission staff and visitors from all over Europe and beyond to exchange, share and discuss. The exhibition takes the visitor through EU achievements and milestones, showcases European cultural and historical heritage and puts important EU projects in the spotlight, like the Copernicus satellite greeting the visitor when entering the exhibition.

The Berlaymont Piazza becomes a meeting point for social interaction, a connection with nature and culture, and the privileged venue for temporary exhibitions.
On display this autumn, alongside the EU Space Programme Human Brain Project and the Graphene Project, the EUmies Awards exhibition which showcases models of architectural works recognized by the European Union Prize for Contemporary Architecture / Mies van der Rohe Awards, supported by Creative Europe, demonstrating how they have positively impacted our living environments in recent years. These include: housing projects that rejuvenate existing structures, enabling residents to shape their own homes; cultural facilities that strengthen a city’s connection to its natural surroundings, such as waterfronts that reflect the effects of climate change; educational buildings designed to foster optimal learning environments; cultural heritage projects that bridge the past with the future for a more resilient tomorrow; Innovative works from the new generation of architects, presenting bold visions for the future.
