Young Talent 2023. The Laboratory of Education

Why do we live the way we do? Can fostering a relationship between the people and their geology be achieved by developing tools to manipulate earth at the scale of the landscape? Can we build differently? Can we make people understand that we need to change our consumption habits?
This series of questions shows concerns, curiosity, intentions, and ambitions, of the authors of some of the projects displayed in this room. They are starting points for a process of research that goes together with a development of a specific design. Some of them focus on developing theorical approaches, others are based on technical experimentation, and many more are answers to specific issues.
All of them are graduation projects selected by an independent jury formed by N’Goné Fall, independent curator and cultural policies specialist; Manuel Henriques, executive director at the Lisbon Architecture Triennale; Jennifer Mack, associate professor and docent at KTH Stockholm; Simone Sfriso, co-founder of TAMassociati and Snežana Vesnić, assistant professor at the University of Belgrade.
This selection of projects is a sample of different ways of teaching and learning architecture in the academic context, highlighting the importance of creating an atmosphere of freedom without constraints to boost students’ potential. The jury members want to express the richness inherent in the diversity of ways of approaching the architectural and urban design process.
Through this collection of drawings, collage, photomontages, videos, and models, you are about to find out inspiring and poetic narratives, projects that bring light and freshness to ecologic and political issues, optimism despite the current social, political, and economic worldwide situation.
Young Talent encourages exchange in the academic field and seeks to improve the skills of architects from the beginning of their professional careers while also learning about the differences and similarities in the teaching of architecture worldwide.
The exhibition with models is presented in Venice as a Collateral Event of the 18th International Architecture Exhibition and a Print-it-Yourself version is available to all schools (write to ytaa@miesbcn.com). The first venue of this exhibition is at the Turin School of Architecture.
